About
Dr Vandana Katyal is an Australian registered Specialist Orthodontist with extensive clinical, academic, and educational experience in contemporary orthodontic practice. Her work is grounded in evidence-based orthodontics, with a particular focus on digital treatment planning, clear aligner biomechanics, and biologically sound tooth movement.
Drawing on advanced digital technologies and modern orthodontic principles, Dr Katyal designs customised orthodontic treatment plans that prioritise efficiency, predictability, safety, and long-term stability. Her clinical philosophy integrates science with an advanced understanding of facial aesthetics, symmetry, anatomy, and growth, underpinned by a strong commitment to patient-centred care and clinical excellence.
Education and Professional Development
Dr. Katyal received her Bachelors of Dental Surgery and her Master of Science in Medicine (Clinical Epidemiology) at The University of Sydney. In 2013 Dr. Katyal earned her Doctor of Clinical Dentistry in Orthodontics from The University of Adelaide and Membership in Orthodontics, from the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons and Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh. Dr. Katyal spends countless hours attending continuing orthodontic courses to make sure that she always offers the top treatment available.
In 2019 she completed a Master of Business Administration, following which she attended Stanford University’s and the world’s most innovative Design Thinking bootcamp. In 2021 she also completed her Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, making her a qualified accredited trainer and assessor in Australia.
She maintains an active commitment to lifelong learning and regularly participates in advanced orthodontic education as well as VET-related professional development to ensure her clinical practice and teaching remain aligned with current scientific evidence and emerging technologies.
Teaching Passion and Clinical Innovation
Dr. Katyal’s passion lies in modern and technology-driven customised orthodontics. Her research has been published in top ranking journals in areas such as clear aligner treatments, remote AI-driven orthodontic monitoring, paediatric sleep-disordered breathing, snoring and oral appliances. Her research has been published in Australian, European and high ranking American orthodontic journals. Her postgraduate research on paediatric sleep-disordered breathing was featured on Channel 9 national news, ABC radio, 4BC radio, The Daily Telegraph, The Sun Herald, and Bite Dental magazine in 2013. She was also awarded the renowned Sam Bulkley AB Orthodontics Travelling Fellowships twice in 2013 and 2014. Presented by the Australian Society of Orthodontics Foundation for Research and Education towards her research interests, Dr Katyal shares this honour along with the most distinguished Australian leaders in the field of Orthodontics.
In 2025, Dr Katyal authored Winning Orthodontic Workflow – The WOW Guide to Delivering Clear Aligner Treatments (Edition 1), a clinically grounded textbook designed for dentists and orthodontists. The book integrates orthodontic biology, aligner biomechanics, digital treatment planning, and an extensive real-world case series, providing a structured and evidence-based framework for delivering predictable clear aligner outcomes in contemporary practice. Dr. Katyal’s is very enthusiastic about the idea of practising modern innovative and patient-centric orthodontics from first hand experience, which made her write a remarkable book providing readers with insights into her own inclusive clinical experiences. She also provides orthodontic courses that’ll help you gain in-depth clinical and instructive knowledge of orthodontics. She is an avid lecturer at several national and international orthodontics conferences.
